You name it, I’ve done it.
Running, Spinning, Orange Theory, Insanity; the list goes on! But I noticed, especially as I got older, that I still felt flabby. Although thin, I just wasn’t toned or strong.
I didn’t want to be a weak little old lady! I had a workout buddy who felt she had plateaued too, so we decided, despite our fear, to try CrossFit together.
I immediately loved it. The atmosphere was so fun and collegial. People were cheering for each other and the music was loud. Everyone was so happy and sweaty! I love sports and am used to playing on teams. CrossFit was the first workout that made me feel the way I did when I played sports.
Over time I have become more confident in the movements. The coaches at Holy City are very focused on form and do everything they can to help me succeed without getting hurt. Now I’m the one encouraging new members!
I love Bright Spot Friday. One of my first was after completing the 19.5 Open workout. Just a few weeks before, I didn’t even know what that meant!
I’m still working on so many things! Going to more classes, not making excuses, technique, nutrition, flexibility. It’s a process!
It never matters that I don’t lift the most weight or that I scale many movements, though. At Holy City everyone encourages me and cheers for me like I am a true athlete.
I wish I had started seriously lifting weights long ago. I am now more toned and feel stronger than ever. Don’t be scared to try something out of your comfort zone!
